Education Assistant

JOB OPPORTUNITY

We are accepting applications for a term position of Education Assistant at the T̓łisa̱lagi’lakw School.

Reporting to: T̓łisa̱lagi’lakw School Principal

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Deliver individual student learning plans as directed by the Principal
  • Deliver interventions and strategies given by classroom teachers, Inclusive Education coordinator/teacher, and Principal
  • Collaborate with Inclusive Education Coordinator/Teacher
  • Monitor student progress as required
  • Maintain a daily activity log and provide written summaries or reports as required
  • Supervise students as required as per school policies and procedures
  • Assist with student field trips as required
  • Participate in extra-curricular activities as required
  • Consult with cultural staff regularly and as required
  • Treat students in a respectful, responsible, and fair manner with due consideration to the students’ social-emotional and psychological development
  • Ensure that the school discipline policy is adhered to 
  • Maintain effective and collaborative relationships with school staff, outside agency professionals, and parents/guardians/caregivers
  • Demonstrate responsible and professional behaviour towards attendance and work schedules
  • Provide morning and/or noon recess supervision as required
  • Other related duties as required

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 preferred
  • EA certification preferred
  • Experience working directly with elementary school aged children, preferably in a First Nations environment
  • Superior communications skills, particularly with school-aged children
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check & Vulnerable Sector Search through the Criminal Record Review Program

WAGE:

  • $23 – $28 an hour (depending on education, qualifications, and experience)
