Language & Culture Coordinator
We are accepting applications for the term position of Language & Culture Coordinator at T̓łisa̱lagi’lakw School.
Reporting to: T̓łisa̱lagi’lakw School Principal
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• In conjunction with the principal, supervise all cultural programs and cultural staff.
• Develop, evaluate, and update curriculum for Kwak̓wala language, dance, art, and history taught in the school.
• Teach Kwakwaka’wakw songs, dance, history, and language.
• Develop in association with the principal, informal and formal evaluation report cards for the students’ cultural education.
• Facilitate workshops and cultural training for staff to establish, promote, and enhance culturally relevant programs and activities in the regular classroom.
• Attend staff meetings.
• Take a regular supervisory role on the school team.
• Arrange, plan, and conduct cultural related field trips, events, and performances.
• Develop a progressive curriculum that improves skills and knowledge.
• Always ensure the safety of students.
• Engage in life-long learning with respect to training and professional development.
•Conduct oneself in a manner appropriate to a professional learning environment.
• Treat students in a respectful, responsible, and fair manner with due consideration to the students’ social, emotional, behavioural, spiritual, mental, and psychological development.
• Other related duties, as may be required from time to time.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Demonstrated knowledge of Kwakwaka’wakw culture, language, dance, and history
• Developing to proficient level of Kwak̓wala language
• Experience in and knowledge of Gukwdzi protocols
• Working toward or possess a degree in education and/or language proficiency
• Previous experience working with elementary school-aged children
• Previous experience in curriculum development
• Satisfactory criminal record check & vulnerable sector search
SALARY:
• $56,547 – $66,193 depending on education, qualifications, and/or experience.
