Water and Wastewater Operations Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Land Code Manager, the Water and Wastewater Operations Manager oversees the operation, maintenance, and long-term planning of the Nation’s water and wastewater infrastructure. This role ensures regulatory compliance, environmental protection, and the health and safety of residents, while safeguarding our culturally significant freshwater resources.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Managing water quality, distribution, and conservation
  • Overseeing wastewater treatment plant operations
  • Ensuring compliance with provincial/federal regulations
  • Leading inspections, sampling, maintenance, and reporting
  • Collaborating with Public Works and Capital Projects staff
  • Mentoring and training water/wastewater operators
  • Supporting capital planning, budgeting, and emergency response
  • Engaging with regulatory agencies and providing regular updates to senior management and Council

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Required:

  • EOCP Certification: Water Distribution Level II and Wastewater Treatment Level II (or higher)
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in municipal or First Nation water/wastewater operations
  • Strong knowledge of BC environmental and public health regulations
  • Demonstrated leadership in operations, planning, and supervision
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License

Assets:

  • Experience in remote, coastal, or Indigenous communities
  • Familiarity with aquifer systems and coastal climate risks
  • Experience with ISC funding and MTSA agreements
  • Additional EOCP certifications (e.g., Small Water Systems)

  • May require responding to emergencies or urgent issues outside regular hours
