2026 ‘Na̱mg̱is Elk Draw Applications
Each year, when ‘Na̱mg̱is receives our allocated elk tags, they are divided equally between hunters and Food, Social and Ceremonial (FSC, commonly called “ceremonial”) purposes.
Hunter tags are entered into a lottery for eligible ‘Na̱mg̱is hunters. Eligibility is determined based on the rules outlined below.
FSC elk are butchered and distributed as food to Elders in ‘Ya̱lis (Alert Bay). All First Nations Elders in Alert Bay receive elk meat, regardless of their registered Nation. None of the FSC elk is retained for other social or ceremonial purposes.
The ‘Na̱mg̱is Natural Resources Department manages the Elk Draw and FSC distribution process.
All hunters who receive a tag must complete and return it to the Natural Resources Department following a successful hunt. If a hunter is unsuccessful, the unused tag must also be returned so it can be properly reported.
Hunter Eligibility
- Must be a ‘Na̱mg̱is member with a valid Status Card
- Must have a valid Canadian Firearms Licence (PAL)
- Must be 19 years of age
- Must not have received a ‘Na̱mg̱is elk tag within the past three years
- One tag per household, per cycle
- Hunter must be present during harvesting of the animal

Applications are available through the ‘Na̱mg̱is Natural Resources Department and can also be downloaded below.
Then include the submission instructions: bring it to the Natural Resources Office at 43 Gatu Road, fax it to 250-974-5900, or email it to terian.w@namgis.bc.ca. Applicants need copies of their PAL and Status Card, front and back, and only successful applicants will be contacted.
