Blended Governance Implementation Co-ordinator
1 YEAR TERM (with potential extension)
Organization Summary:
‘Namgis elected Chief and Council and traditional leaders currently work together under a form of blended governance to strengthen and guide relations among them and to guide working together to uphold their respective responsibilities, build unity, and continue to implement ‘Namgis self-determination in accordance with Gwayile’las – ‘Our Way.’
‘Namgis traditional leaders and elected Chief and Council operationalize blended governance through an Interim Protocol which guides how they:
- are consulted on decisions which may affect ‘Namgis’ title and rights, including negotiations with Crown governments and industry; and,
- work together to develop a long-term blended governance system.
‘Namgis traditional leaders and elected Chief and Council meet monthly to discuss their blended governance business at a table called the “Forum”. To assist in effective Forum dialogue, ‘Namgis traditional leaders also meet in prior to the Forum at a table called the “Chiefs Meeting”.
At Forum and Chiefs Meetings, action items and projects are discussed and approved, which require support to coordinate and deliver.
Position Summary:
As the Blended Governance Implementation Coordinator, you will report to the Senior Administrator and provide support to the Forum and Chiefs Meetings by coordinating and supporting the projects, negotiations and actions mandated according to the Interim Protocol.
Responsibilities:
- Attend virtually, or in person, planning meetings to assist in preparation of Forum and Chief Meeting agendas.
- Attend each Forum and Chiefs Meeting in person to:
- understand mandated projects, negotiations and actions ; and,
- report, or coordinate reporting, on the status of mandated projects, negotiations and actions.
- Work with the RIRSD Coordinator, Forum and Chief Meeting administrative support staff, Forum and Chief Meeting participants, ‘Namgis Band staff, negotiation teams, and project managers responsible for delivering mandated projects, negotiations and actions to ensure they are completed.
- As required, act as project manager responsible for delivery of mandated projects, negotiations and actions.
- Prepare update reports for the Forum and Chiefs Meetings regarding the status of of mandated projects, negotiations and actions.
- As required, support the efficient and effective operation of the Forum and Chief Meetings.
- Travel as necessary on Vancouver Island to address the above responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- Experience in working with First Nations governments and communities in British Columbia.
- Experience in the organization and running of efficient meetings, including producing minutes.
- Familiarity with use of a computer for producing materials and setting up virtual meetings.
- Strong interpersonal skills including experience using tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to take initiative, use good judgment, plan, and organize work.
- Ability to coordinate a variety of initiatives with minimum supervision, while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
- Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
- Comfortable communicating orally and in writing.
- Access to a vehicle will be an asset for attending meetings and engaging with traditional leaders.
- Understanding of ‘Namgis culture and Kwak’wala language is an asset.

Salary range – $56,547 – $66,193
