Part-Time Patient Travel Clerk

Job Summary:

To administer the Medical Transportation (MT) Program under the direction of the Community Health Nurse Coordinator, in accordance with FNHA guidelines.  Provides coordinated travel assistance to those clients requiring medical assessment, diagnostic service, treatment, and follow-up care away from Cormorant Island.  This position is a part time position, 3 days a week, 21 hours a week.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Arrange and provide medical appointment travel for eligible clients in an efficient, economical manner following FNHA NIHB Medical Transportation guidelines.
  • Work with local and referring physician offices to arrange medical travel.
  • Maintain records of Medical Travel including warrants, travel arrangements, confirmation of attendance, benefit exemptions
  • Maintain Excel spread sheet of Patient Travel Cheque Request
  • Maintains record of clients who has outstanding accounts with MT Department; and communicate with accounting department for appropriate deduction
  • Maintains patient file, electronically and manually, and ensures clients fulfill individual responsibilities related to the Contribution Agreement for Patient Travel (submission of Confirmation of Appointment forms)
  • Help with the completion of special medical treatment forms. 
  • Maintain current demographic list of membership (addresses, phone numbers, date of birth, status numbers, MSP)
  • Assist admin office staff in providing telephone coverage, directing clients for services at the ‘Namgis Health Centre
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and conflict management in stressful situations
  • Demonstrate a community knowledge that supports members access services to meet their needs
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality for clients and staff

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12
  • Completion of Office Careers Certificate (1 year)                 
  • Knowledge of Micro Soft Windows, MS Work, MS excel, and Patient Travel Software
  • Keyboarding Skills of 50 wpm
