Executive Opportunity

The ‘Na̱mg̱is First Nation is seeking an Assistant Administrator, externally referred to as Deputy Administrator, to join the Nation’s senior management team.

Trimark People Solutions is supporting the Nation with this executive recruitment.

Reporting to the Senior Administrator, the Assistant (Deputy) Administrator plays an important role in strengthening the Nation’s administration, supporting departmental coordination, and helping ensure governance and administrative functions operate with clarity, accountability, and respect for ‘Na̱mg̱is teachings and traditions.

The role works closely with Directors, senior management, Council, staff, community members, Elders, hereditary leaders, external partners, and government agencies.

As the Nation strengthens its administrative capacity, the long-term goal is to have two Assistant Administrators. One is currently in place, and this recruitment will identify the second. Each will support a group of departmental portfolios and work closely with the Senior Administrator and Directors.

Key Responsibilities

The Assistant (Deputy) Administrator will:

  • Support the Senior Administrator with the Nation’s annual work plan and departmental coordination.
  • Work with Directors to advance departmental goals, work plans, reporting, and performance measures.
  • Help ensure compliance with ‘Na̱mg̱is policies, procedures, records management, reporting, and governance requirements.
  • Oversee operating budgets within assigned portfolios and support responsible financial management.
  • Provide leadership and performance management to Administration support teams.
  • Act as the Senior Administrator’s designate when required.
  • Attend Council and Membership meetings and support follow-up on decisions and action items.
  • Support ‘Na̱mg̱is Council Committees.
  • Liaise with federal and provincial governments, other First Nations, Indigenous organizations, and local governments.
  • Coordinate Directors’ meetings and follow up on reporting and action items.
  • Chair Post-Secondary and Housing Committee meetings as required.
  • Coordinate the Chief and Council election process.
  • Perform other related duties.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with:

  • A post-secondary degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Indigenous Governance, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • At least three years of senior management experience within a First Nations government, Indigenous organization, or comparable public-sector environment.
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial funding frameworks, reporting requirements, and compliance requirements affecting First Nations programs and services.
  • Experience with work plans, project proposals, departmental strategies, and measurable outcomes.
  • Leadership experience in performance management, coaching, conflict resolution, and team development.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with budget development, monitoring, and variance analysis.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • The ability to work with discretion, diplomacy, cultural humility, and confidentiality.
  • A valid BC Driver’s Licence and reliable personal vehicle for business use.
  • Flexibility to travel and work evenings or weekends when required.

Who You Are

You are a relationship-oriented and organized leader who can work respectfully with Elders, hereditary leaders, Council, staff, community members, and external partners.

You understand governance and administration, communicate clearly, follow through on commitments, and are comfortable working across multiple departments and priorities.

Experience working within First Nations organizations and an understanding of Indigenous governance environments are important to this role.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary of $94,640–$111,639 per year
  • Group health benefits
  • Pension plan
  • A collaborative, purpose-driven work environment
  • Relocation and/or housing support may be available
  • An opportunity to contribute directly to the strength and sustainability of the ‘Na̱mg̱is First Nation
