Assistant Administrator

The Assistant Administrator reports to, collaborates, supports and assists the Senior Administrator in all matters related to ‘Namgis operations including, but not limited to, the senior management team, Council, Council Committees, ‘Namgis volunteer boards, other First Nations, Indigenous organizations, federal and provincial governments, external agencies, band membership and other stakeholders. The Assistant Administrator also supervises the administration support team and other ‘Namgis work units as required.  This is a term position, with the possibility moving to a permanent fulltime.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Liaises and works directly with department heads to ensure work plan goals, objectives and updates are delivered in a timely manner
  • Liaises with the Comptroller and Department Heads in the annual budget process
  • Acts for the Senior Administrator as their designate during any absences
  • Attends Council meetings and represents the Senior Administrator as required
  • Attends Finance Committee, Housing Committee, Health Board meetings and/or represents the Senior Administrator as required
  • Attends to and acts on behalf of the Senior Administrator as the liaison between the Nation and Health Canada, Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), Government of BC, Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, Tribal Councils, other First Nations and Indigenous Organizations and Local Governments as required
  • Directs and oversees the Public Works Supervisor, Capital Projects Coordinator, Human Resources Coordinator and the administrative support team
  • Receives and addresses the Nation’s Member questions and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Other related duties as may be required from time to time

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three (3) years in a senior management position, preferably within a First Nation
  • Proven leadership skills in administration and performance management
  • Demonstrated financial management skills in budget preparation and administration
  • A proven record of successful project funding proposals with all levels of government  
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both written and verbal

Salary range – $44.83 per hour – $52.79 per hour, and will commensurate with experience.
