Construction Lead
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Land Code Manager, the position is responsible for overseeing and executing major and minor renovations, repairs, and maintenance of band-owned Housing and Capital Buildings & Assets. This role includes recruiting and supervising workers as needed and collaborating with key managers to ensure all properties remain in good condition. The Construction Lead will coordinate projects, manage resources, and ensure that work is completed efficiently, safely, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate, and execute construction, renovation, and repair projects for Housing and Capital Buildings & Assets.
- Supervise and mentor 1-2 workers on-site, providing guidance and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
- Conduct inspections to assess the condition of band-owned properties and determine necessary repairs or upgrades.
- Collaborate with the Housing Manager and Public Works Manager to prioritize projects and align work with community needs.
- Ensure all construction work complies with building codes, safety regulations, and organizational policies.
- Source materials, equipment, and subcontractors as needed while managing project budgets effectively.
- Maintain accurate records of completed work, project costs, and timelines.
- Respond to emergency maintenance or repair requests in a timely and efficient manner.
- Provide recommendations for long-term maintenance planning and infrastructure improvements.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction, renovations, or building maintenance.
- Experience supervising workers in a construction or trades setting.
- Strong knowledge of construction practices, safety regulations, and building codes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple departments and managers.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to different project sites as needed.
- Certification in construction safety or related field is an asset.
Working Conditions:
- Work is primarily performed in a construction environment, both indoors and outdoors.
- May require lifting, standing, bending, and working in various weather conditions.
- Travel between sites and occasional evening or weekend work may be required based on project needs.
