Head Start Parents & Tots Program Childcare Worker

Position Summary: 

Reporting to the Early Childhood Development Manager, the Head Start Parents & Tots Program Childcare Worker’s primary responsibilities are to assist in the delivery of the six components of the Aboriginal Head Start Principles and Guidelines for children 0-5 years in and to provide a safe, nurturing environment for children to experience social, physical, psychological, and cultural growth.

Specific Job responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the development of opportunities for quality education for young children in preparation for entrance into the school system.
  • Provide guidance and direction to Head Start personnel and parents in the delivery of the program.
  • Assist in the planning, design, preparation, and evaluation of the program.
  • Plan and prepare the six components as outlined in the Aboriginal Head Start Principles and Guidelines Handbook.
  • Work as an effective team member and be willing to provide support and share ideas.
  • Follow a daily schedule that includes indoor/outdoor, active/quiet, and individual/group activities.
  • Ensure a healthy and safe environment such as administering first aid, observing, and removing potential hazards, the duty to report.
  • Attend workshops in and out of town to increase knowledge and to be current with childcare trends.
  • Perform any other job-related duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Education / Qualifications:

•             Grade 12 or equivalent; Early Childhood Education Certificate an asset

•             First Aid Certificate and Food Safe – training on site

•             Minimum of one year experience working with children under the age of six years.

•             Clean Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records check

•             Class 5 drivers license an asset.

Compensation is based on the ‘Namgis Salary Grid – $20.91 – $24.23
