Home & Community Care Nurse

JOB SUMMARY: ‘Namgis First Nation is in the idyllic setting of Cormorant Island which is located northeast of Vancouver Island in the community of Alert Bay. We are seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our health care team which includes the ‘Namgis First Nation Health Centre staff and Cormorant Island Hospital staff. The primary responsibilities of the RN are the assessment, planning, organizing, implementing, documenting, and following up on home care and related matters for clients of all ages with chronic, acute, palliative, or rehabilitative health care needs, in accordance with accepted standards and guidelines.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Providing in-home client assessment, post-surgical care, wound care, palliative care, chronic disease management and medication administration
  • Delegating tasks to ‘Namgis Home Support Workers as required and responds to reports from Home Support Workers regarding client care needs or changes in client health status, and responds to those needs in a timely and solution-oriented manner
  • Developing and implementing a plan of care in cooperation with client/family/caregivers and relevant professionals, to achieve desired care needs and outcomes
  • Providing information reviews and advice to clients and family members regarding treatment and care procedures 
  • Developing or assisting in the development and implementation of health care clinics, client groups, workshops, conferences, meetings, etc.
  • Maintaining reporting and recording systems in accordance with accepted standards to ensure legal and data requirements are met

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered Nurse designation and/or community health nursing training, ora diploma in public health nursing with training in home or acute care
  • Current Practicing License with the Registered Nurses Association of BC (BC College of Nurses & Midwives)
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and personal vehicle for business use
  • Satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector search results

Other job requirements

  • Flexibility with hours of work to meet client needs
  • Occasional overtime, weekend or evening work as may be required from time to time
  • Emergency response for medical events

Wage: $ 48.77 – $ 61.33 per hour
