Mental Health Counsellor
The Mental Health Counsellor joins the Health and Wellness team at the ‘Na̱mg̱is Health Centre, reporting to the Health Centre Administrator. This role provides mental health counselling services to all age groups, including children, youth, adults, and Elders, using a holistic, community-focused approach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct counselling to community members, including assessment, treatment, referral, and follow-up, working with individuals, families, or groups
- Deliver counselling related to crisis, trauma, suicide, domestic violence, and abuse (sexual, physical, emotional)
- Offer timely and solution-oriented assessment and intervention services using a case management model, mobilizing community resources as appropriate
- Respond to mental health disorders using a range of acceptable treatment approaches
- Liaise with other Health Centre staff, MCFD, RCMP, hospitals, schools, and related agencies for referrals, assessment, treatment, and education
- Coordinate and facilitate weekly family support meetings
- Maintain clinical records/reports in compliance with legislation, policies, procedures, and professional/ethical standards
- Develop and provide internal education/information sessions for staff as required
- Develop and/or facilitate community education/workshops on current mental health issues
- Conduct outreach and consultation to identify community needs and recommend appropriate programs and services
Qualifications & Experience:
- Master’s degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience providing direct counselling services to individuals, families, and groups
- Experience working with Indigenous clientele on or off reserve
- Demonstrated knowledge of holistic treatment modalities
- Current membership in a recognized professional counselling association
Additional Requirements:
- Respond to after-hours emergencies as required
- Flexibility for overtime, evening, and weekend work
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector search
- Valid Driver’s License and personal vehicle for work purposes
Salary: $66,048 – $77,532 per year
