Traditional Healer Lead

Pay Range: $50.00/hour to $58.00/hour

The North Vancouver Island PCI Health Society is seeking a Traditional Healer Lead for the North Vancouver Island area to provide a holistic approach to the delivery of primary care that includes traditional wellness and cultural healing to our communities. The Traditional Healer Lead will be providing services at First Nation’s Health Centres (Located at Kwakiutl, Quatsino, Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw, ‘Namgis, Kwikwasut’inuxw Haxwa’mis, and  Dzawada’enuxw) and  Sacred Wolf Friendship Centre, and Building Blocks locations (for urban and away from home)

The Traditional Healer lead will work with a team-based care model in Primary Care services that grounds us with traditional wellness and cultural healing. Uplifting our traditional practitioners and cultural healers as autonomous and integral members of our health service team is fundamental to ensuring the initiative is nourished through mutually respectful relationships between Kwakwaka’wakw and non-indigenous partners. The Traditional Healer Lead will ensure that patients have access to and receive traditional healing services and traditional medicines.

Education, Training & Experience:

  • Minimum post-secondary education, preference in the area of Indigenous Studies or related Human Services diploma with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in cultural programming. A combination of skills, educations, and life learning specific to traditional knowledge maybe considered
  • An individual who is Kwakwaka’wakw or First Nation ancestry with understanding practices and sharing Kwakwaka’wakw history, culture, traditions, ceremonies and values is preferred.
  • Experience in spiritual healing and traditional medicine

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Sound ability to practice using culturally safe and trauma-informed approaches
  • Familiarity with Traditional Healing practices, customs, values and traditions
  • Provide traditional knowledge, cultural teachings, ceremonies, and traditional ways of knowing so that families and communities can learn and practice healing ways in their daily lives
  • Work with other health services programs to ensure client continuity of care
  • Current BC Drivers License
  • High level comfort working with technology such as Zoom, EMRs, Microsoft
  • Must have ability to maintain professional conduct and confidentiality
  • Registers and schedules patients and priorities workload
