The 2,500 sq. ft. home is being relocated by barge to Alert Bay, where it will be repurposed as office space for the ‘Na̱mg̱is Lands & Infrastructure Department.
“This is an innovative approach that meets our urgent need while also eliminating many of the barriers that come with new construction,”
said Samantha Webster, Director of Lands & Infrastructure.
“By repurposing this building, we’re able to reduce waste and avoid the high cost of transporting materials and tradespeople to our remote community.”
The relocation is made possible by Bosa Properties, which is covering the cost of moving the home. The project is supported by Renewal Development, a company that specializes in saving houses from demolition and coordinating moves to remote communities. Renewal has completed similar projects with other Nations, helping divert usable homes from landfills while supporting local needs.
CTV’s Ben Miljure covered this positive story highlighting the partnerships and creativity helping bring new resources to ‘Na̱mg̱is.
This repurposed home marks an important step toward meeting space needs for the Lands & Infrastructure team and demonstrates how strong partnerships can create sustainable, community-driven solutions.
