Position Summary
The Janitor is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout the Administration and Natural Resources Building. This includes daily cleaning of interior spaces, basic upkeep of exterior areas, and ensuring the facility is secure and ready for staff, clients, and community members. This role supports the overall health, safety, and comfort of everyone who works in or visits the building.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and maintain interior spaces including floors, washrooms, offices, common areas, and program rooms.
- Maintain exterior areas such as entrances, walkways, and surrounding grounds.
- Secure the facility after hours by ensuring all doors and windows are locked and the building is safe before closing.
- Monitor and report maintenance issues, equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or repair needs to the Supervisor.
- Replenish cleaning and washroom supplies and ensure equipment is used and stored safely.
- Follow all health, safety, and sanitation procedures, including safe handling of cleaning chemicals and compliance with WHMIS standards.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous janitorial or custodial experience in an office, community facility, school, or similar environment is an asset.
- Knowledge of safe cleaning practices, including proper use of cleaning products, equipment, and disinfectants.
- WHMIS certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including lifting, bending, standing, and operating cleaning equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.

- Good communication skills and the ability to report issues clearly and promptly.
