Member Engagement

ʼNa̱mg̱is First Nation continues to host Member engagement sessions to provide information about the proposed Land Code amendments, answer questions, and gather Member feedback.

Members are encouraged to review the available information and participate in upcoming engagement opportunities before the proposed vote on December 6, 2026.

November 7, 2026 – Annual General Meeting (AGM)

An information session on the proposed Land Code amendments will take place during the AGM.

No vote on the Land Code amendments will take place at the AGM.

November 25, 2026 – Virtual Information Session

An evening engagement session will be held via Zoom to provide Members with another opportunity to learn about the proposed amendments and ask questions.

The meeting time and Zoom participation details will be shared once confirmed.

December 6, 2026 – In-Person Engagement & Special Membership Meeting

An in-person engagement session will be followed by a separate Special Membership Meeting and Member vote in the afternoon. Formal notice and additional details will be shared once confirmed.

Important Reminder: Separate from the Specific Claims Referendum

The November 6, 2026 Specific Claims referendum is entirely separate from the proposed ʼNa̱mg̱is Land Code amendments.

These are two unrelated initiatives with separate processes and voting dates.

October 25 Engagement Session – Rescheduled

The October 25, 2026 Member engagement session was postponed out of respect for the family and to allow community members to attend the funeral taking place that day.

Additional engagement opportunities are now scheduled for November 25 and December 6, 2026.

October 15, 2026 – In-Person Information Session

An in-person engagement session was held at Council Hall in Alert Bay, BC.

September 10, 2026 – Virtual Information Session

The first Member engagement session on the proposed ʼNa̱mg̱is Land Code amendments was held virtually on September 10, 2026.

The session included presentations from Erica Louie, Land Code Governance Advisor with the First Nations Land Management Resource Centre, and Holly Vear, legal counsel working with ʼNa̱mg̱is on the proposed Land Code changes.

Topics included the Land Code governance framework, reasons for the proposed amendments, the proposed allotment system, Member engagement and voting requirements, and next steps.

Land Code Amendment Vote – December 6, 2026

A Member vote on the proposed ʼNa̱mg̱is Land Code amendments is planned for Sunday, December 6, 2026, during a Special Membership Meeting.

The vote will take place in the afternoon, following an in-person Member engagement session earlier that day.

Please note: There will be no vote on the proposed Land Code amendments during the November 7–8 Annual General Meeting.

Formal notice of the Special Membership Meeting and vote, including the time, location, eligibility requirements and voting procedures, will be shared with Members once confirmed.
